Hulshof raises $1.4 million for campaign

US Congressman Kenny Hulshof, a Republican candidate for Missouri governor, reported raising $1,482,194 during the last three months for his campaign.

Hulshof's net fundraising for the election so far now totals to $2,388,077 according to a fundraising report filed Tuesday with the Missouri Ethics Commission.

Excluding $103,239 in non-itemized contributions, the campaign received 25 percent of its contributions from political committees, half of which came from district legislative committees as in-kind donations. The remaining 75 percent of Hulshof's itemized donations came from individuals and businesses.

Of the non-political committee funds received, 11 percent came from out-of-state and 89 percent ($908,497) came from donors within Missouri.

Regionally, Hulshof's donor base is fairly well distributed throughout the state. His campaign received funds from all seven regions.

In each of Missouri's seven regions Hulshof netted more than his primary challenger, State Treasurer Sarah Steelman.

The campaign raised the most funds in St. Louis, which accounted for 32 percent of its itemized, non-political committee contributions. In second was the Central Region followed closely by the Southwestern Region which both accounted for 18 percent of the total in-state contributions.

Also during the second fundraising quarter of 2008, the campaign reported $1,047,087 in expenditures bringing total spending this election cycle to $1,221,396, slightly more than Steelman so far.

Among the listed direct expenditures were $386,488 in ad buys, $93,942 in payroll (plus $9,437 in payroll taxes), $83,478 for professional services, $99,891 for printing, and $11,787 in fundraising expenses.

Hulshof's campaign also reported $1,149,641 cash-in-hand at the close of the quarter with zero debt.
