Gov. Fundraising: Hulshof outraises Nixon in 5 regions

US Congressman Kenny Hulshof, a Republican running for Missouri's governor's mansion, raised more funds in the last quarter than his primary opponent State Treasurer Sarah Steelman.

By all accounts, it was a good fundraising quarter for Hulshof who also outraised presumptive Democratic nominee Jay Nixon in five of Missouri's seven regions. Nixon only managed to raise more funds from individuals and businesses in the Kansas City and Northwest Missouri regions.

The regional analysis is, however, slightly tilted in Hulshof's favor since Nixon has been fundraising for the election for several years now.

Steelman did not come out on top in any single region of the state. Steelman and Hulshof will face each other in the Aug. 5th primary and the winner will compete against Nixon in the Nov. General Election.

In total, Hulshof raised $1.4 million during the quarter while Steelman raised just $290,000. Nixon raised the most, however, $1.76 million during the quarter.

MPN's analysis of campaign finance reports filed with the Missouri Ethics Commission shows Nixon was the most reliant on political committees, bringing in 54 percent of his total funds from committees. Hulshof was the least reliant and used them for just 25 percent of his fundraising while Steelman used them for 43 percent.
