Hulshof nets $907,000 in first fundraising quarter

US Congressman Kenny Hulshof (R) netted $906,683 in monetary and in-kind contributions during the first fundraising quarter of 2008, according to a report filed Tuesday with the Missouri Ethics Commission.

"The excitement surrounding our campaign is spreading and the enthusiasm is real," Hulshof said in message on Tuesday. "Our message of an open and accountable government is being received very well. I appreciate the outpouring of support so far and I am committed to building on our momentum."

A total of $303,150 of Hulshof's itemized contributions came from political committees (see figure below). Of the contributions from non-political committee donors, 94 percent were from within the state of Missouri.

The majority of Hulshof's in-state contributions came from the St. Louis, Central, and Southwest Regions (see map below). Hulshof raised more than Republican challenger Sarah Steelman in five of Missouri's seven regions, only not exceeding her contributions in the Northwest and Kansas City Regions.

Contributions of note to Hulshof include the Missouri Farmers for Biodiesel PAC, reported by MPN earlier this week, and maximum donations from every member of the Sam Fox family. Fox is currently serving as the US Ambassador to Belgium and was a significant donor to the Swift Boat Veterans group that opposed Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry in 2004.

Hulshof's report does contain at least one major flaw, no occupational information is provided for any contributor.

After spending $174,309 during the quarter, Hulshof now has $731,757 with zero debt.
