Gov. Matt Blunt today likened the Republican HealthNet proposal to an oil change while visiting a Jiffy Lube in Columbia.
"You may wonder why we’re at a Jiffy Lube to talk about health care. Well, I think it makes some sense. You know that you can get your oil changed at the Jiffy Lube or a Jiffy Lube in Florida, and they know about your car," Blunt said.
While Jiffy Lube may seem to be a peculiar location to discuss healthcare, a statement from Blunt's office later in the day indicated that Jiffy Lube's "service facilities demonstrate how technology can effectively track and maintain records and the shortcomings of current medical record systems."
Blunt's point is that technology can be utilized to provide better healthcare in the state.
"It is unacceptable in the 21st century that Jiffy Lube is more technologically advanced than our health care system," Senate President Pro Tem Mike Gibbons (R-Kirkwood) said.
Legislative Democrats contend that Blunt's program would be more effective for the state if the 100,000 Missourians cut off Medicaid two years ago were brought back.
"If we’re going to do a prevention-model plan like MO HealthNet, the more people who are on it, the most savings can be realized," Rep. Judy Baker (D-Columbia) told the Columbia Tribune.
